Monday 5th October 2015 brought a very sad ending and a scary beginning to a new journey. I retired from World Castle Publishing and set out on the path to being an Indie Author.

I would like to thank Karen Fuller of World Castle Publishing for believing in me enough to publish my work. To Maxine Horton Bringenburg, for editing my first book, Hidden. Eric R. Johnston and Jeff LaFerney, for mentoring me and giving me the confidence to become an author. Sheldon Townsend and Denise Bush, I am so grateful to you for all the hard work you put into the promoting, Hidden. I really appreciated your assistance.

My time at World Castle has taught me so much and introduced me to so many other talented authors. I’ve made some wonderful friends along the way and will never forget my time there. A huge thank you to everyone who has kept me afloat when I’ve felt down, who’ve supported me when I’ve been stuck and who’ve shown me the way forward and had fun with me along the way. There are too many of you to mention, but you know who you are. There are so many hard working people in this industry who don’t receive the recognition they deserve. I admire you all and you’ve all taught me different things, but most of all to believe in myself and be determined.

Today, I set out heading for a new horizon. Who knows where I will end up next, but when we ask the Heavens for their help, the heavens have a funny way of replying, so hop on board, step into my world and let me take you on a journey…

Footprints – Christopher Lee 1922 – 2015

Childhood leaves us with great memories, which we hold onto and carry throughout the rest of our lives. Those that leave a lasting impression don’t necessarily have to have been a massive part of our lives, but they do have to have been important. Babysitting my younger brother, while my parents managed a few precious hours together out of the house, while watching the late scary movies that I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to watch, brought memories of Christopher Lee, in what I consider to be his greatest role – Dracula.
Many a shiver was sent down my young teenage spine as my brother and I stayed up late to watch him deliver his performance, never ceasing to excite or satisfy that need to be frightened in the comfort of our armchairs. Christopher Lee, played many roles over the years, some more memorable than others, but his latest that caught my eye was his portrayal of Saruman, in Lord Of The Rings. Christopher’s ability to portray pure evil was unsurpassed and that is what will always stay with me.
Christopher Lee, a fine actor who will always leave his footprint on my life and will be sorely missed, died today, aged 93. Rest in peace.

More Hidden Saga to come in 2015

Serina Hartwell’s Background Work For The Hidden Saga

Over the Christmas holidays, I never have much time to myself and so writing naturally goes out of the window until after the main chunk of Christmas is out of the way, but what I do often have time to indulge in is my photography, because I can pick it up and put it down.

IMG_20140925_213352This year has been such a roller coaster ride for me. 2014 has been one of the biggest and most memorable years of my life. I finally got published after many years of writing and trying so hard to get into the industry and when I looked back over the photos that I had taken, I saw a physical representation of my life. I had no idea that I had done so much, but the main thing that I’ve been doing since I started writing, is taking photographs which have served to inspire my writing.

The Hidden Saga is strongly based around the elements and so has driven my photography in that direction, so I’ve finally put the time aside to put together my own personal collection of pictures that I have taken for the mood boards for The Hidden Saga and I’d like to share them with you.

I hope that you have an amazing New Year. I can’t only wait to see what 2015 brings, but I want to take the lessons learnt in 2014 with me.

Please enjoy another branch of my artistic work.

Spreading A Little Christmas Cheer 2014 From Serina Hartwell

IMG_20141220_220519Spread A Little Christmas Happiness

Every year I send out enough cards to cut down a tree, which doesn’t feel right, so this year I have decided to do something a little different to spread a little Christmas happiness and save a tree. I’ve decided to hold the cards and instead do something a little more personal for you all to wish you all the best. I have therefore put together a Christmas collection of Photographs from my home and a Christmas playlist to listen to in the background.

I really hope you like the alternative to a card and enjoy a little bit of relaxation while you view. Merry Christmas folks, and a huge thank you for all your support in 2014. I hope you have a positive and prosperous New Year 2015 and send you all my love and best wishes.

Look out for some major changes in 2015 by watching my website. Trapped – The Hidden Saga is coming soon.

Paying Tribute To The Brave – Remembrance Day

Poppies

Poppies

Today, in the UK, we honour the armed forces, because today is Remembrance Sunday, or Poppy Day. Remembrance Day actually falls on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, but today the queen and the forces will turn out to pay tribute to those lost, past and present.

I would like to do the same. I would like to thank all those, past, present and future, who have given or will give their lives to protect me and mine. May I acknowledge those who have been injured in battle and have had their lives changed forever as a result. You are not forgotten, your service to your country and the rest of the world is always in our minds, even when it’s not shouted from the roof tops. I would like to send out my heartfelt thanks to every man and woman across the globe, who has either spent a career defending the world, or who step out into the unknown as we speak.

You bravery and dedication to the cause of keeping us all safe is admirable and very much appreciated. Today, I honour you with gratitude and thanks. May you stay safe and well and never lose faith in yourselves, for you are the difference to the rest of us.

Acknowledgement Of A Devoted Grandmother

Grandma 1974Today we say goodbye to my grandmother, Mary, who sadly died this morning. Watching her fight for her life over the last month, I have been reminded just how precious life really is. She gave it her all and showed the dignity and inner strength of the admirable lady that she was. A lady whose life spanned 94 years and had many tales to tell.

My grandmother was the source of much love and joy in my life and the lives of others. She was caring, unassuming and thoughtful, always putting the needs of others before her own. I will always look upon my grandma with fondness and appreciation, for the strength and caring nature she encompassed. She will be missed so dearly by us all.

The whole family and I wish to send out our thanks to the staff who cared for her in her twilight years and the hospital staff, who provided her care in her final stage of life. We would also like to thank all who have supported us with their love, prayers, and support and for all the kind words you have offered us throughout this testing time.

Mary passed in her sleep, having lived a full life and made it one of contribution and service to her family, her community and her friends. May she enjoy an eternal life of everlasting peace?

Happy Halloween 2014

IMG_20141031_175314I have to admit to being the biggest kid when it comes to Halloween. I think it’s the thing I look forward to most throughout the year, because I love the atmosphere it creates.

Every year, it was always my job to take the children out, Trick or Treating, but since my better half found out how much fun it all is and how it allows you to revert back to being a big kid for the night, he has taken over the Halloween preparations.IMAG7777_1

I tried to stop trimming the house for a year or two, because my children had grown out of it, but soon received complaints from the neighbourhood kids. They knew that they could always come to our home and receive a warm welcome, knowing that we always got into the spirit of things, so here is this year’s window and my daughter has finally gone back to adorning a costume, albeit for a party.

So, all that remains is for me to wish you all a fantastic and Happy Halloween.
